Meet The Joint’s Superstar Budtender Bandmember Grant!

As a longtime musician and cannabis user, Grant Mason was destined to become a member of The Joint’s superstar budtender team. If you’re looking for a Portland recreational dispensary budtender with a passion for both music and cannabis, roll in and say hello to Grant.

Following several years in alcohol sales, both as a bartender and in beer and wine distribution, Grant recently transitioned into the cannabis industry. He says he enjoys working with cannabis customers much more, and that his appreciation for the health benefits of cannabis has deepened a great deal.  

“After nearly a decade working with alcohol, I decided to pivot career paths because of the harmful nature of alcohol itself,” he says. “Cannabis, on the other hand, is a much safer alternative that carries health benefits in addition to its psychoactive properties.”

Grant says that since he has made the professional switch from alcohol to cannabis, he personally has been drinking less and smoking more. “I’ve noticed significant improvements in my physical and mental health ever since,” he says.

Grant is eager to help The Joint’s customers elevate and heal their mind, body, and soul, including helping them select the right cannabis strains for their needs. “From generic aches and pains to brutal trials with cancer, many of our customers use cannabis for its healing properties,” says Grant. “While pharmaceuticals are necessary in some cases, they often bear negative side effects and can be highly addictive. In my personal life, I have lost many friends to opioid addictions, starting as prescriptions for simple pain relief from minor injuries and ended in debilitating addiction. Cannabis, on the other hand, is a safe alternative for pain relief, stress relief, inflammation, insomnia, nausea, and lack of appetite … just to name a few.”

A native of mid-coast Maine, Grant’s greatest passion in life is music, another reason he hits all the high notes at The Joint.   

“I come from a big musical family and I started playing drums and guitar at age ten,” he says. “Over the last two decades I have been in nine active bands and have played hundreds of live shows all over the country. Throughout my life, music has acted as a form of physical and mental release as well as an effective way of making friends – similar to cannabis.”
